Inspiring Others Through Faith and Passion

Inspiring Others Through Faith and Passion

Michelle Walkup and her congregation
Michelle Walkup has a heart for mission work, one that has already made a memorable impact on Kingdom Home. She not only inspires others with her passion, but she inspires us in her ability to use her faith to make a greater difference.

In her role as the administrative assistant at South Lyon First United Methodist Church Michelle has raised nearly $1,500 by creating fundraisers that engage her friends and community. She chose to share Kingdom Home’s story with her congregation for their Mission of the Month in April, and used her birthday to raise money and awareness for our cause on social media. Michelle has continued to be a champion of Kingdom Home, and it is with her help that we will end the child sex trade in Uganda in our lifetime.

Michelle and her family: daughter, Jordyn and husband, KenMichelle's two biggest passions are the Detroit Tigers and her church, and learning about Kingdom Home became a mutual blessing. She was inspired by Matt’s conviction in his faith as a professional athlete and the Boyds’ bravery to start their own organization.

“Human trafficking is a horrible issue that doesn’t get enough attention, and I think people truly don’t understand.” Michelle said. “It’s important to shed more light on the issue to raise awareness, and to try to bring an end to it, whether it’s in the U.S., Uganda, or anywhere around the world.”

Michelle and her husband, Ken, left a career in pharmacy to follow their calling into ministry nearly five years ago. She also shares a close relationship with her daughter, Jordyn, who recently graduated from Ohio Northern University, her parents’ alma mater, with a degree in education. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and their cat, Ernie (Harwell), participating in Tigers fantasy camp and doing mission work with her church.

Her desire to harness her faith to help at-risk children in Uganda is just one example of how to get involved with Kingdom Home. Anyone can take action, but Michelle’s story confirms that when you spend time learning about issues that matter to you, you can truly make an impact.

“We need to make a difference in this world right now with all of what is going on. Just find something, get behind it and go all in. Whether it’s monetary, volunteering or mission trips — find something in the world to make a difference today.”
